How to create a blog? Which platform to choose? For which accommodation? Do I need to know how to code? How can I attract people to my blog? And so many others...
These are the questions I answer in this article. Follow me, I will be your guide in this great adventure that is blogging!
You want to create a blog but don't know where to start? You're in the right place to learn it. And you know what? You're not alone in this adventure! Figure that it is created about1.7 millionnew blogs...dailyHey! Yes, you read well.
When I think about it, it sounds crazy...
But don't let these numbers impress you. On the contrary, see an opportunity! Because guess what?77% of Internet users regularly read blogs (whether conscious or not!).It's huge, isn't it? It means there's room for everyone,And especially for you!
Whether you want to share your passion for vegan cuisine, become the guru of personal development, or even make a living with your blog (eh yes,14% of bloggers do it!), this guide will give you all the keys to success.
So, are you ready? Attach your belts, you are about to create your beautiful blog! 😎
A blog is a type of website That's very specific. It's likeyour little corner on the internetwhere you can share your thoughts, passions, or expertise.
Sometimes personal, sometimes professional, blogs aim to publish content on a given subject, more or less regularly.
It's kind of like you have your own online magazine, but much cooler and more interactive!
In most cases, blogs are said « thematic issues ». In other words, they focus on one particular area.
For example:
Take a concrete example: the blog« Like a French woman »by Géraldine Lepère.
This is a perfect example of how a blog on a specific niche can become a real success!
Nevertheless, there is no rule prohibiting the creation of more blogs « generalist ». If you want to create a personal blog on which to share everything that goes through your head, you have absolutely the right.
⚠️ Attention: A generalist blog will generally be more difficult to make known and monetize.
In concrete terms, we can create blogs on everything and anything.
The important thing is that you're passionate about it. Because believe me, your enthusiasm will feel in your articles! 😉
Because creating a blog can be beneficial. In financial terms, of course, but also with regard to other objectives. Here is a small list of what a blog can bring you:
For example, if you are Freelance, creating a blog might be very advantageous compared to your competitors who don't have one. I'll come back in a next article.
If you want to deepen the reasons why creating a blog is a good idea, I recommend reading this article: Why create a blog?If you read this article, I guess you know exactly why you want to create your own blog. If not, I invite you to read this article:what you need to know before you start a blog.
There is a great chance that you will avoid making mistakes after reading this article.
Now that it's done, let's go to serious things starting... with the first step!
If you want to create a blog, it's probably because you have something to share on a specific topic, right?
The basis for any blog creation, especially when you start, is to define precisely what topic it will focus on.
This strategy will facilitate your ascent as an expert in this field.
If your goal is to generate revenue or create an authority in a field, it is not advisable to publish content of any kind on your blog. Why?
For by doing this you will erase this aspect« Expert »and« Specialist »Your identity.
Actually, it's pretty obvious. Let's take an example: let's admit you have to buy ice skates.Professionals. Would you head to Decathlon (who sellsALLforALLworld) or to a storespecialisedin discipline? To the specialist, of course. Its advice is of another level and its products do not target the same clientele. They're targeting pros like you.
It's exactly the same with your blog or website.
But that's not the only advantage of nesting. It will also be easier for you to make yourself known, as the competition will generally be less.
I know only one good reason to create a tote blog: just having a desire to share what comes to mind, without pretension, only for pleasure.
If this is your case, no problem: have fun!
Neophytes often find it difficult to find a niche at the beginning. Actually, it's not hard. You just have to be self-conscious.
From the answers to these questions, it becomes very easy to find some ideas for blog niches. All you need to do is pick your results.
Yes! To start creating your blog professionally and squarely, you'll have to equip yourself with your own domain name! But it goes first through a good blog name.
The domain name of your blog is a bit likeyour address on the web. That's what your readers will type in their search bar to find you. So I might as well say it'sThat's great!
💡 A good domain name must be memorable, easy to spell and linked to your theme.
There are two main ways to choose your domain name:
| Strategy | Benefits | Disadvantages |
|---|---|---|
| Keywords | ✅ Blog topic clear for all ✅ Small advantage in SEO | ❌ Hard to change themes ❌ May seem less professional |
| Brand name | ✅ Memorable and unique ✅ Flexible for blog evolution | ❌ Request more work to be recognized ❌ No more immediate SEO |
Good examples:
Bad examples:
Try to choose a nice domain name and not too long. If one day you decide tosell your blog, it could bring you a little more if your domain name turned out to be pretty.
So, do you have any idea what name you're looking at? Do not hesitate to test it with your friends or family. And above all, check his availability before you attach too much to it!
There are lots of sites on which you can buy your domain names.
My favorite is LWS. It is simple, efficient and cheap. In addition, support reacts very quickly to any problem.
By clicking on my links, you help to perpetuate bloggaddict.fr, so thank you to you 🙏
Choosing the right platform for your blog is like choosing the right pair of shoes for a marathon. It can make all the difference between a pleasant experience and... painful bulbs! 😅
Here is a comparison of the main blog platforms to help you make the right choice:
| Platform | Type | Benefits | Disadvantages | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress.org | Self-hosted | ✅ Highly customizable ✅ Large support community ✅ Many plugins and themes | ❌ Stronger learning curve ❌ Requires separate accommodation | Professional blogs or with high growth potential |
| WordPress.com | Hosted | ✅ Easy to use ✅ Free offer available | ❌ Limited customization on free plans ❌ Free advertising | Beginners or personal blogs |
| Wix | Hosted | ✅ Intuitive drag-and-drop interface ✅ Modern designs | ❌ Less optimized for SEO ❌ Hard to change theme | Creative blogs or portfolios |
| Medium | Hosted | ✅ Focused on content ✅ Integrated Audience | ❌ Little customization ❌ No direct monetization | Writers seeking immediate audience |
| Ghost | Self-hosted | ✅ Quick and light ✅ Oriented publication | ❌ Less plugins available ❌ Requires technical knowledge | Content-based professional blogs |
| Blogger | Hosted | ✅ Free and easy to use ✅ Integration with Google | ❌ Limited design options ❌ Basic Features | Personal or beginner blogs |
If you are serious in your blogging approach and you are aiming for long-term growth, I strongly recommend WordPress.org. That's what I'm using for BlogAddict, and believe me, the possibilities are endless!
But remember: the best platform is one that meets your needs. A blog on Medium can be just as successful as a WordPress blog if that's what suits you best.
To really go into depth on this topic, consult:Which blog platform to choose?
You have certainly already heard of WordPress. CMS solution that propels more than 40% of web sites and blogs, the platform imposes itself as the mastodon of blogging.
In my view, this is the ultimate solution for creating a blog.
And for cause! The platform offers all possible and imaginable tools to customize its blog from bottom to bottom. There are more than 50,000 WordPress plugins (extensions) and more than 10,000 themes, a unique agora that will delight beginner bloggers as confirmed!
In summary: WordPress.org is a complete solution that allows to create a blog in the best ways.
You should not confuse WordPress.org (self hosted) and WordPress.com (hosted). We will see the latter later in the article.
Need a tutorial? See my guide here:How to Create a WordPress Blog
Drupal is an open source CMS that allows you to create an internet blog, extranet/intranet platforms, as well as web applications. Of course, what interests us here is blog creation: Drupal offers the advantage of being simple to install and use.
The small flat of Drupal is its heavy architecture which is not compatible with all accommodations. So you have to be wary of this little detail before you buy your accommodation.
Joomla! is a CMS solution that is very popular with companies and companies. It enables a large amount of traffic to be managed and is an efficient SEO solution.
Indeed, Joomla! offers for example the possibility to modify the address of the web pages to include the titles of the articles. It is extremely easy to edit and customize, but has a limited number of modules.
Ghost is a CMS platform that stands out from other solutions by its node.js language. Built entirely in JavaScript, it can result in blogs ten times faster than a WordPress blog. Ghost also presents itself as an intuitive solution easy to handle.
I do not necessarily recommend the platform to beginners, as it sometimes requires some basic programming knowledge.
Here we go! The second facet ofWordPress : WordPress.com.
Unlike CMS WordPress.org solution, the solution « .com » is ablog creation platform hosted. It offers the possibility to create your blog in a few clicks, without worrying about acquiring the domain name or hosting.
The platform even presents a free offer, albeit very limited, but useful for neophytes who want to discover the universe of blogging.
Medium is a platform that depicts its connoisseurs. Unlike other solutions that present a multitude of graphic options, themes and possibilities to customize the aesthetics of his blog, Medium does not focus on any of this.
Launched several years ago by Twitter, the identity of the platform is simple: offer a space or showcase content, content and content! And for good reason, with a simplistic design and no advertising, Medium is very successful.
Bloggers come here to publish content and focus on substance. Like a newspaper, it is mainly recommended to bloggers who like to write.
Blogger is Google's blogging solution. It was very popular in 2005.
Free of charge, it allows us to create our blog in a relatively simple way (i.e. on the relative).
Blogger offers us the opportunity to customize a lot of things about design. Many topics are also available in different market places.
It is also possible, unlike WordPress.com, to link his blog with his domain name.It is quite rare that a similar service offers this possibility for free. It is interesting to stress this.
However, know that this platform is gradually abandoned to the benefit of WordPress mainly, which offers an unmatched scope of possibility.
We can also see on this graph:

It is still quite possible to create a good blog on Blogger (at the cost of many hours and features). Nevertheless, I invite you to create a WordPress blog to benefit from its huge ecosystem.
Wix is a generalist CMS that has been gaining popularity since its launch in 2006. With a modern interface, fairly numerous features and striking designs, Wix seduces amateurs and professionals.
Very aesthetic, the platform is ideal for agencies, entrepreneurs and artists wishing to exhibit their work (illustrator, photographer, musician...)
Squarespace is a site builder who focuses, like Wix, on aesthetics above all else. The platform is specially dedicated to designers, artists, as well as all creative space actors.
The platform offers a wide range of fully customizable templates, including its latest update: version 7.
Weebly is an online website publisher who knows his great success in Uncle Sam's country. Very popular in the US, the platform has a great ease of use. This is due in particular to its « drag and drop », very appreciated to build and update his blog.
Webflow is not a hosted platform itself. It is positioned between a website builder and a CMS at the same time. Founded in 2013, the young solution sometimes reminds WordPress.
Its free package is relatively interesting, with the presence of a visual editor very appreciated when customizing the design of a blog.
Some tend to forget, but Tumblr is a pretty interesting microblogging platform. Often associated with « Teenagers » wrongly, the platform can be a nice choice for bloggers who want to share short graphic posts.
At the crossroads of a blog creator and social network, Tumblr is a free solution that highlights the work of illustrators, photographers and other artists.
Who has never heard of LinkedIn?
Like Tumblr, some people stick a relatively negative image on LinkedIn, in addition to spam invitations that pop into our mailboxes all. However, we must not forget that the site remains the number 1 platform in the professional field!
It may sometimes be very interesting to open a LinkedIn account to publish articles, especially in specific sectors such as finance, entrepreneurship and real estate.
Webnode is a classic platform that nevertheless offers two significant advantages:
The presence of a wisiwyg editor: literally« what you see is what you get", a real-time editor to build your blog ;
The possibility of displaying your tickets in several languages.
Yes! To start creating your blog professionally and squarely, you'll have to equip yourself with your own domain name! But it goes first through a good blog name.

There are lots of sites on which you can buy your domain names.
My favorite is LWS. It is simple, efficient and cheap. In addition, support reacts very quickly to any problem.
You now have your blog, its name and its creative platform.
However, which internet user wants to discover a blog that looks like a hundred more? No one! Therefore it is essential and even imperative to create a personalized logo.
The logo is the visual identity of your blog.
The logo is the main element of your brand image.
The logo is what attracts the eye of netizens/prospects first.
Having it is given character to his blog and making it unique!
To create a logo customized to your blog, two choices offer you:
In the first case, you just have to go to specialized sites like graphic designer.com or fiverr.com.
If you don't necessarily have the budget to hire a professional and if drawing and colorimetry are not your favorite passions: no panic. Today, there are tools whose role is to facilitate your life on this side.
My favorite tool is without hesitationCanva: a website that creates and customizes designs of any type. It is the must have for people who do not necessarily have graphic skills.
Canva is a simplicity that seems almost incredible. The site proposes to create a logo, a graphic designer, a post on social networks, a banner, a brochure, the cover of a book or the design of blog and portfolio.
To use, just connect to Canva, then click on « Create Design ». The site then offers a multitude of formats. What interests us here is the format « logo ». Once selected, Canva offers hundreds and hundreds of customizable templates at will: from color to elements and typography!
For example, you can click on the tab « element » to add a detail about your blog. If you want to open a photography blog, you can include a camera.
Once your logo and personalism has the image of your blog, you can download it with one click.
Easy, isn't it?
You probably have some ideas on which to publish.
But have you ever really thought about how to write articles that will really hurt?
I mean... Such good items that they have the potential tobecome viral ?
If you're new, I guess not.
Anyway, I will introduce some concepts as a list so you can see more clearly.
Well, that's a little guru, that's right. This process has a name:storytelling.
Well used, this process can become a realreaction machine.
At first, you may not be able to create blog posts as epic as you would like. That's normal.
Besides, know that this kind of articles is not suitable for all subjects.
The writing style is working. Persevere and you will reap the fruits.
I will soon go into the matter with a substantive article. So stay connected as they say.
A successful blog depends mostly on the quality of its content. However, several other elements also contribute to the sustainability of a blog, including its illustrations.
Like indexed text, search engines like Google take into account illustrations used in articles.
Thus, the images contribute to the natural referencing of a blog and increase its traffic.
From a sociological point of view, the illustrations help the reader to better visualize things and increase confidence capital. When an Internet user clicks on an article about the manufacture of scented candles, he is happy to find in mind an illustration of candles. The latter tells him that he did not mislead the page and helps encourage him in his reading.
However, be careful:
Not all images you find on the net are free of rights. Far from it!
In fact, you can only use 90% of the images on the web without risking prosecution for « Copyright infringement ».
To find free images to illustrate your blog articles, there are online image banks.
These banks come in the form of a website where free or paid images can be downloaded. Some sites are known to be mostly free, including:
While others are paid, but sometimes offer better quality images. For example:

To make his blog known,We need quality content.
I would never repeat it enough, but good content is the basis of a successful blog! To do this, it must be clear, answer a problem, be informative and easy to read.
However, writing and publishing a good article without ever reading it gets close to an oxymore.
To do this, I share below several professional techniques accessible to all!
So, you created your blog and you're ready to conquer the world? Great! But wait a second... How will people find you in the vastness of the web? That's where the SEO comes in, my friends! 🕵️♂️
The SEO, or Search Engine Optimization (optimization for search engines in good French), is the art of making your blog irresistible to Google and company. The objective? To appear at the top of the search results when someone types keywords related to your content.
Imagine you're running a vegan cooking blog. Instead of aiming for super general keywords like « recipe », target more specific terms like « gluten-free vegan burger recipe ».
Tip: Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest to find relevant keywords.
Your title and your meta-description is your window on Google. Make them catchy!
Example of good title: « 10 Recipes of Burgers Vegan that will bluff your friends Carnivores »
Description: « Discover our 100% vegetable burger recipes, tasty and easy to make. Even your carnivorous friends will ask for more! »
Google loves fresh and relevant content. Aim at at least one article a week, and make sure it is useful and well written.
Don't forget:
Link your items naturally. It helps Google understand the structure of your site and keeps your readers longer on your blog.
More than 50% of research is done on mobile. Make sure your blog displays perfectly on smartphone!
The SEO is a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient, persistent, and focus on creating awesome content. The results will come, I promise! 💪
The secret is work!
I know, you don't necessarily want to hear that. Yet I didn't use the term « work on natural SEO » Nothing.
On the contrary, the SEO takes time to see its results, especially when we start. But one thing is certain, the game is worth it!
| Benefits | Disadvantages |
|---|---|
| Can bring many visitors | Takes a lot of time to get results |
| Very skilled traffic | Low cost depending on the theme you find yourself in |
| Can be sustained over the long term with the right strategies | Hard access when little is known |
| Can earn a lot of money (seehow to monetize your blog) |
Guest articles are fairly widespread in the blogging community.
They make it possible to make themselves known to the audience of another blogger.
In concrete terms, it is simply a matter of writing and publishing an article on the boyfriend's blog.
Of course, you will need to write a relevant article that will be of interest to readers of the blog on which you intend to publish. That goes without saying.
Well... there's no secrets.
You'll have to go and contact the bloggers on your topic and ask them if they might be interested.
It's actually a win-win deal.
You get a link « free of charge » in addition to exposing you to the audience that the blog has.
The blogger, he receives a quality article that will probably position himself on Google and bring him other visitors.
Try to make this clear to the people you are going to approach to maximize your chances of acceptance.
Discover my full dedicated guide:How to make your blog known through guest blogging and gain authority
| Benefits | Disadvantages |
|---|---|
| Asks only one article | Need to find bloggers accepting guest articles |
| Fast visitor flow | Need to write an article outside your blog (but necessary to grow!) |
| Creating a backlink to your blog (very good for SEO) | |
| Once it's published, no need to take care of it (and that's top) |
Make sure you have a good netlinking: the web is like a constellation. One star leads to another and so on. It is therefore important to have a netlinking strategy. In short, it's about having links to other sites that redirect to your blog, as well as links to other sites on your blog. In this way, you expand your audience and show your reliability to the algorithm!
This is probably the easiest way to attract its first visitors.
Whether Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, we all have networks on which we communicate and share.
Make « promo » of your articles on your networks is a good way to attract visitors.
But in an attempt to maximize its chances of breakthrough, I invite you to createa dedicated profile for your blog.
This will have the advantage of attracting only those interested in your publications and your theme.
We don't want to bother our loved ones every week with our publications that are of no interest to them, do we??
I personally made this mistake with an ecommerce blog that I held at the time. Suffice to say that first of all, I only attracted very few people on my blog, and that two times it was polluting everyone's news feed. None of my relatives were familiar with the conversion rates and the actu ecommerce.
You see the kind of relou that I was.
| Benefits | Disadvantages |
|---|---|
| Few attract a lot of people and keep your community loyal | Requires time to maintain its RS |
| Makes you know more easily than with the SEO | Hard to believe at first. You have to keep your mind. |
There are various ways to encourage readers of your blog to engage. The commitments are all interactions, minimal or not, that take place between the reader and your blog.
When search engines record commitments, this is equivalent to « signals » positives that indicate that your blog is appreciated. A very good thing for the SEO!
You can encourage engagement in a variety of ways, including offering readers:
My dearest mother always made a saying:All work deserves pay!
And I can only agree with that. In other words, if you offer enough value to your community, you are entitled to earn money! To achieve this, there are many possibilities. Here is a brief summary to make money with your blog:
To learn more about monetizing a blog, I recommend this article: Best techniques to monetize your blog
There is one thing in blogging that makes it possible to sustain its activity and no longer depend on external actors for its income generation.
This is your email list.
This list is the almost assured survival of your case.
Why?
Because you don't depend on anyone to promote, sell and present your products and services.
Imagine being able to contact hundreds of thousands of people, all interested in what you have to offer. And this for free (almost according to your email marketing tool!).
Isn't that a dream situation?
This is what a email list allows.
So, even if for the moment you don't have anything to sell, I invite you, no, I urge you, go and install a email capture system on your blog!
There are lots of very simple services to use.
Personally I useMailerlite. It is, in my opinion, the most effective and simple solution to take in hand.

Remember, every successful blogger has started exactly where you are now. The only difference? They dared to start and never gave up.
So, are you ready to write your own success story? The world is waiting to read what you have to say. Your voice is unique, your perspective is precious. Don't be afraid to share it!

Now it's up to you! Immerse yourself in these resources, learn, experiment, and above all, have fun. Blogging is an exciting journey, enjoy it! 🚀
Very good question!
The difference is only a hair:A blog is a type of website.
A website, or website, is a static showcase that does not aim to be updated very often. On the contrary, a blog is necessarily dynamic and receives new content over the weeks.
In this way, a site may sometimes include a blog section that is, unlike the site itself, regularly fed.
The budget required for a blog may be to 0€as200€.
It all depends on the project.
Beginner bloggers or amateurs who wish to open a blog only by passion can flourish with the free, even very limited, package of a hosted platform.
However, in order to create a self-hosted blog that has certain ambitions and aims to evolve, it is necessary to prepare an average budget of 100€ / year, i.e. less than EUR 10 per month.
Generally speaking, thecost of a blogwent on as follows:
For turnkey blogs on hosted platforms, the annual basic package starts on average at40€and arrives until450€.
Once again, everything depends on your goals.
A blog maintained by passion can ask only a few hours of work per week. However, a more professional blog takes much more time. If you want to monetize your blog, you will have to devote energy to it.
To have your blog is to do everything yourself:
However, it is worth recalling that time is variable. It is quite normal to have only one hour a day dedicated to his blog some weeks and 5 hours for others.
The whole thing is to love what you do and to give yourself the means to achieve the goals you have set yourself!

Coucou pourriez-vous partager quelle plateforme de blog vous utilisez?
Je prévois de commencer mon propre blog bientôt mais
j’ai du mal à choisir BlogEngine/WordPress/B2evolution et
