Why follow the keywords of our blog on Google?
If you are working hard to make your blog known and therefore bring readers to it, it is essential to follow the evolution of your blog on the Google search engine.
This allows:
- Know on which keywords your blog is positioned, and therefore whether your blog posts perform in the eyes of the search engine
- To be able to determine a possible fall, if some of your positons on the front page fall abruptly
With more sophisticated skills, you will be able to know more or less accurately why your articles can't reach the front page or why they fell on Google. But let's focus on the essentials of this post: monitoring your positions.
The first step: the Search Console
Search console (SC for insiders) is a Google-specific tool. It allows you to measure the performance of your site in its search results. But it also allows a lot of other things like:
- Detection of any technical problem, which would hinder your progress
- The current status of indexing your pages (so whether or not your pages are present on Google)
- Show how many prints and clicks your pages generated
There are many other features but, at least, they are the main interested here.
I find it very important to install this tool on his blog because it is a bit the basis of any site analysis.
How to install the Search Console on its WordPress site?
To have access to this famous tool, you will need to possess a Google account.
As is probably the case, appointment now on your WordPress site => Plugins.
Type «Site kit Google» then click on « install now » and « enable » plugin.
This done, appointment in tab «Search Console» Site kit plugin.
You only need to click on «Install« .
Bravo, you can now track your performance! But this is unfortunately not enough.
If this good old Search Console will be useful to you at any time, it will not provide you with any data precise about your positions on the keywords that interest you.
This is where you come into play... A position tracking tool. Available for free.

Update: Since the tool has come out of beta, it limits the free tracking of your positions to 10 keywords. Otherwise, you will have to pay a subscription for about 3€ per month to follow 100 keywords. Which remains reasonable.
