A keyword, what is it? Definition

One keyword is a term typed by Internet users on search engines to carry out searches.

This method of acquiring traffic is highly qualified and is therefore naturally popular with bloggers.

If you wish to see your website on these results, it will be important to include them in your content.

In other words: an article is supposed to target a main keyword!

Now, let's just know how to find them, and how to target them.

Here we go!

What is a good SEO keyword?

A good keyword is a keyword typed on search engines by your target audience.

This translates into its Research volume.

I'll tell you a little bit below.

The free method to find keywords relevant to his blog

Not everyone has the means to equip themselves with tools, especially when we start blogging.

That's why I'm offering you two: one for free and one for paid tools.

Let's start with free.

Find keywords with Google AdWords (Google Ads) and its KeywordPlanner tool

To find keywords, it is essential to use tools.

Here, I will present you a tool that Google makes available to everyone as part of its advertising platform Google Ads.

To make my guide even more meaningful, I'm going to put myself in the shoes of a photographer who wants to expand his traffic on search engines.

  1. Create or own a Google account
  2. Getting on https://ads.google.com/intl/en_en/home/tools/keyword-planner/
  3. Fill in the requested information:
  1. Click on the "Discover Keyword Planning Tool" button:
  1. Now you're on the tool! Now, click on the tab "Find new keywords":
  1. We fall on this page:
  1. In the field "Indicate products or services closely related to your activity", I will type "tuto photograph". I get these results:

I now have a good list of keywords. It's up to me to sort it out and identify the ones I want to position myself on.

Note as many keywords as you can find interesting. Don't limit yourself. I'll teach you to identify the ones to focus on later.

Repeat this scheme as many times as necessary to get at least 50 relevant keywords for your blog.

Google Suggestion

It's a technique that I liked very much when I started and didn't have the means for paying tools.

Google Suggest is a Google feature that allows anyone to have search suggestions.

Here's how it works:

How to use Google Suggest to find keywords?

  1. Launch your browser in private mode
  2. See you on https://google.com
  3. Start typing a keyword related to your theme
  4. A suggestion list appears
  5. Note the results that you think are relevant to your blog

That's it!

The advantage with this technique is that the suggestions that appear are really typed by the users. So you have everything to gain from targeting these keywords.

People Also Ask

Also called "PAA", the People Also Ask are questions that appear in the search results, as in this example ("becoming a photographer") :

Excerpt from questions asked by Google users

You may have crossed them before.

Well, know that it is quite possible to write content focusing solely on the answer to these questions. Not only can this feature give us ideas for articles, but it can also make us generate traffic.

Find keywords with Search Console

The Search Console is a tool offered free to all by Google.

As I explained (successfully) in my article "how to follow the positions of his blog on GoogleHe gives us access to a number of very useful things. Check it if you don't know how to install it on your site yet.

This tool gives me the number of impressions per keywords on which our blog appears.

In my case, it looks like this:

Queries on which blogaddict.fr is posted on Google

To access this tab, once connected to the SC, you will need:

  1. Select the website you want to analyze
  2. Click on the tab Performance
  3. Go to the section "Requests"

Why is this useful in our search for keywords?

Well, in some cases, our site displays on queries that we do not see first. This leaves us two possibilities:

  1. Write an article specifically targeting these types of keywords in order to position itself on it.
    1. Don't forget to create an internal link from the initial page to the new one.
  2. Improve our page to include these keywords if they are relevant, with the aim of improving its ranking on these search terms.

If your site is recent, it is possible that it has not yet registered printing. It's quite normal. In this case (and in all cases) you must continue to produce content, keeping in mind that you always target relevant keywords.

Conclusion and implementation

I congratulate you, you normally have a good basis of keywords to follow and work for your blog. All you have to do is publish it!
